The Greater Salalah Structure Plan will play a defining role in shaping the future of southern Oman, underpinning the Oman National Spatial Strategy and its vision for a more sustainable, resilient urban environment. Commissioned by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, the plan sets out a long-term framework to guide the growth and development of Salalah and its surrounding region.
Cundall was appointed as part of a multi-disciplinary consortium led by F&M Middle East and Sasaki. We are leading on utility infrastructure, flood risk analysis, and sustainability, as well as guiding the smart city strategy set to affect an expansive 500km² study area. Through creating a robust governance framework we will guide long-term spatial development. This includes defining the distribution of key land uses, infrastructure networks, and essential urban functions, with intent to support sustainable socio-economic growth. Detailed Area Action Plans provide targeted interventions which address specific local challenges and opportunities, focusing on urban regeneration. Through this integrated approach, the Structure Plan ensures that future spatial, social, and economic developments are aligned with a unified vision.
Marko Amezaga-Kutja, Senior Civil Engineer, commented: “We are proud to play a part in shaping the Greater Salalah structure plan, supporting a bold vision for the region’s future. Leading the infrastructure, sustainability, smart technology and flood risk inputs, Cundall is collaborating closely with utility providers, ministries, local authorities and key stakeholders to help deliver a plan that is both ambitious and achievable, guiding the city toward its long-term growth targets and needs.”
This city-scale masterplan aligns national strategies to unlock targeted land use and vital investments, driving Salalah’s sustainable growth.
