Regeneration of the former NHS Newcastle General Hospital site, spanning over 117,000m2. The site provides world-leading research on dementia and frailty as well as offering housing for the elderly. The 10-year masterplan demolished most of the old hospital buildings and prioritise pedestrian and cycle routes along with green corridors.

We worked alongside Newcastle University, Kajima and Genr8 to determine the infrastructure development plan in line with the primary objectives of the scheme. The masterplan provides unique solutions for living, leisure, learning and employment as people age with a focus on health, wealth and wellbeing. We worked on the outline masterplan for the site to ensure it integrates with the surrounding communities and infrastructure.

Duncan Cox, Partner, commented "This is a hugely important project for the North East region. Providing leading research and innovation into the UK’s challenge of an ageing population. We worked alongside the design team to create a low carbon strategy for the campus, considering the operational and embodied energy of the solutions we choose."
