Printworks, a renowned urban entertainment venue, underwent a £21M conversion to revitalise the 19th-century, 33,900m² building to preserve its stature as one of the UK’s top entertainment destinations. Featuring a 1,000m² digital ceiling screen which is the largest in Europe, an interactive gaming screen and Europe’s second-largest IMAX screen, Printworks now offers an exciting entertainment experience.
We provided building services, civil and structural engineering, vertical transportation, and lighting design services. Our multi-disciplinary team liaised with authorities and collaborated with teams, ensuring tailored services for tenants, integration with fire and security strategies, and provided innovative solutions. Thanks to our lighting team, Printworks' historic façade now features three key elements: decorative wall luminaires of a custom design, RGBW graze lighting to the heritage stone and radial luminaires to outline the window reveals.
Clare Dawson commented: We helped transform the iconic 19th-century venue into a modern urban entertainment hub. Guiding construction efforts, our expertise ensured seamless integration of innovative features like Europe's largest digital ceiling screen, preserving Printworks' status as a premier destination.
Our lighting design combines functionality with aesthetic appeal, guiding visitors and enhancing the building's allure. The focus was on versatility and elegance and a seamless integration with precise on-site timing, and this was made possible through project team collaboration and using the best controls such as the Pharos systems.
