Narrandjeri Stadium serves Melbourne's inner north community with three versatile indoor courts for netball, basketball, badminton, and volleyball. The stadium features 298 fixed seats and six accessible spaces for indoor show courts, along with player and umpire changerooms, administrative offices, an onsite café, external landscaping, and ample car parking with EV charging facilities.

Cundall, in collaboration with Brand Architects, was engaged from the initial funding application where our team helped establish the project's overall environmental objectives, through to completion. Our ESD team led the Green Star strategy, achieving a 5 Star Green Star Design & As Built rating. A life cycle assessment drove conscious material choices such as glulam structural portals for the show court and a rammed earth feature wall. Our building services team designed an energy-efficient HVAC system, incorporating a thermal labyrinth system and 99kW of rooftop PV. Our acoustics team also performed specialised modelling to inform the buildings design, ensuring the court’s high volume and irregular shape was taken into consideration and internal acoustic comfort could be achieved.

“Sustainability played a key role in Narrandjeri Stadium’s design. Collaboration between the client, Brand Architects, and Cundall’s team resulted in a highly functional, low-carbon sports facility.” Nandini Phadnis.
