The Australian Bragg Centre (ABC) is a specialist medical facility located in the heart of Adelaide’s (Kaurna Country) health and bio-medical precinct. It is a hub for start-ups and established companies to commercialise their medical and scientific innovations.
Cundall was engaged to provide sustainable design advice and LEED consultancy services across the project, from schematic design phases through to commissioning and handover. In 2024, ABC received a LEED Gold Certified Rating, demonstrating best practices in environmental responsibility and sustainability. Key features include high performance façade and shading strategy, efficient lighting, mixed mode atrium ventilation and rooftop solar PV array, with a capacity to generate 54kW of renewable energy.
Principal Sustainability consultant, Lewis Hewton said, “designing for the future energy demand of large medical equipment posed a key challenge for our team. We worked closely with the client to ensure the LEED strategy considered the bespoke needs of future tenants would be met and every targeted point for the certification has been awarded, which is an excellent result.”

The ABC project is a fantastic example of how medical research centres with energy intensive equipment can be designed and smartly operated in a way that meets tenant needs while also achieving high sustainability performance
