TIDES scored two wins at this year’s ANC (Acoustic and Noise Consultants) awards. Winner of both ‘Venues’ and ‘Innovation’ categories, TIDES embodies the epitome of technical excellence and innovation. The ANC awards promote and recognises excellence from UK acoustic consultants and picks winners for each category which display innovation and a unique approach to acoustic design. 

TIDES, Hong Kong, is a purpose-built venue designed to host modern music tours. Designed with fully integrated touring features, it is the only venue of its size in the region. Located inside the iconic boat shaped structure at Whampoa Garden, the venue sits only metres from surrounding homes, with more than 30,000 residents in the immediate vicinity, with 2,000 directly at risk from potential noise.

The judges were particularly impressed that the project achieved complete inaudibility outside the venue and commented on the ‘clear potential to influence future acoustic design practice’. The judges concluded that ‘TIDES represents a genuinely innovative contribution to architectural acoustics, expanding the industry’s technical knowledge and demonstrating how advanced lightweight systems can enable high energy venues to operate successfully in the most challenging urban environments.’
