The State Basketball Centre is one of Australia’s premier sporting facilities, supporting basketball and gymnastics from grassroots to elite level. The upgraded centre features 18 indoor courts, high-performance training areas, new gymnastics facilities and improved player amenities. Designed to welcome up to 2 million visitors each year, it is a major hub for community sport and sporting excellence.
Cundall’s sustainability team was engaged to provide a technical sustainability review and lead the project’s Green Star submission, achieving its targeted goal of a 5 Star Green Star rating (Design and As Built). Our team delivered a life cycle assessment to optimise material use, implemented the client’s Reconciliation Action Plan during construction, and integrated a 450kW solar photovoltaic system to reduce operational carbon.
“A key highlight was engaging with First Nations–owned businesses for labour hire, landscape works and the supply of PPE. A local Elder, knowledge holder and a custodian of Woi Wurrung culture, facilitated reconciliation education sessions for the site team, including helping ensure the landscaping prioritised locally native flora and fauna,” said Nandini Phadnis, Principal Sustainability Consultant.
A project supporting local and elite level basketball and gymnastics to foster community engagement and sporting excellence across the region.
