Pilgrim Place is a major commercial development in Newcastle city centre, comprising two high-specification office buildings and a shared basement for parking and plant. Pilgrim Place 1 will accommodate a new DWP Service and Support Centre, while Pilgrim Place 2 offers flexible, Grade A office space for future tenants. The scheme also includes retail, leisure, and significant public realm improvements.
Cundall delivered multidisciplinary services, developing an elevated SuDS system, managing complex ground conditions, and coordinating infrastructure in a constrained urban site. Our geotechnical team oversaw contamination remediation and foundation design, while building services were tailored for tenant flexibility and energy efficiency. Early contractor engagement accelerated delivery, ensuring seamless integration across both buildings.
Paul Hards, Partner, commented I was proud to contribute to the successful delivery of Pilgrim Place, a key part of the East Pilgrim Street regeneration in Newcastle. Working on a complex city centre site, our multi-disciplinary team collaborated closely with Bowmer + Kirkland and Ryder Architects to deliver a high-quality outcome, overcoming site constraints through coordinated design and shared expertise.”
Pilgrim Place isn’t just about what’s been delivered, it’s about what it enables. The flexibility built into the design, the sustainable systems, and the coordinated engineering all lay the foundation for a workplace that can adapt and thrive as the city continues to evolve.
