19 Cornwall Street is a deep retrofit workplace project in Birmingham, transforming a dated 1990s office building into 139,000 ft2 (12,000 m2) of Grade A workspace with sustainability and wellbeing at its core. The ambition was to reposition the building as one of the city's most environmentally low carbon offices, targeting industry-leading performance standards including NABERS 5-Star Design Reviewed Rating, BREEAM Excellent, EPC A, WELL Gold and WiredScore Gold certifications.

Cundall provided structural engineering and sustainability consultancy services, helping to shape the project's environmental objectives from an early stage. Our multi-disciplinary team delivered net zero carbon, building physics, health and wellbeing, WiredScore and BREEAM consultancy, alongside whole-life carbon assessments that informed design decisions throughout. By combining carbon reduction strategies, circular economy principles, energy modelling and operational performance analysis, we helped create a highly efficient all-electric building that significantly reduces both embodied and operational carbon.
