124 Walker Street is a 1970s commercial office block that has recently underwent a transformation to reposition itself as a premium workplace, prepared for the dynamic nature of modern working practices. As part of the building’s major redesign, Cundall was appointed to deliver a new lighting design concept that could be replicated on each floor.

Cundall’s lighting team worked closely with the client to present a fit-out approach based on modern interiors, opting to remove base building lights and prioritise a flexible, task-based approach to the lighting design. Each area of the office was treated individually, enabling future tenants to adapt their workspace to individual needs, as well as prioritise health and wellbeing. The outcome boasts photosensors that gently increase and decrease light depending on levels of natural daylight, Bluetooth technology that enables full tenant control and a bespoke design for every meeting room and breakout space to suit varying interests, tasks and functionality.

“The client trusted our design process and the value that could be generated from going against the norm on this project. We encouraged Ho Group to move away from a consistently bright uniform lighting system to one that takes advantage of the dark fitout materials. The result created an interesting contrast between a residential and commercial experience, created a calming gateway to work for tenants and truly stands out in Sydney’s competitive office market.” Bettina Easton, Associate.
