Lucia Savastano

Since childhood, the hummingbird story has inspired me: despite its size, it fought a forest fire with drops of water, saying, “I’m doing the best I can.” It taught me the power of small actions and sparked my commitment to sustainability, which began to take shape during my studies in Building Engineering in Italy and further developed through an MSc in Advanced Sustainable Design at the University of Edinburgh. Since joining Cundall in 2021, I have continued to nurture this passion by joining a truly committed team. As a WELL Accredited Professional and Certified Passivhaus Designer, I bring expertise in passive and net zero operational energy design, with a strong focus on integrating health and wellbeing principles across sectors including workplace, education, and residential.

I am proud to have been part of the team that delivered Scotland’s first WELL-certified project and the UK’s first SEND Passivhaus Plus school building. I am passionate about contributing to the development of streamlined workflows and tools that enable our clients to make informed, data-driven decisions—supporting them in achieving their sustainability goals, reducing operational energy use, and prioritising occupant health and wellbeing throughout the design process.

Collaboration is vital to embedding sustainability into everyday practice. By working across disciplines and sharing knowledge, we turn ambition into action. Together, we create integrated, lasting solutions that benefit people and the planet—making sustainability a standard, not a speciality, and proving that like the hummingbird doing its part to fight the fire, each of us contributes—and together, our collective effort becomes powerful enough to drive real, meaningful change.
