Three Chamberlain Square named winner at ICE West Midlands awards

UK and Europe 18 May 2026

Three Chamberlain Square has been named the winner of the Large Project category at this year’s ICE West Midlands Awards, which celebrate the region’s leading civil engineering projects, teams and innovation.

The development was recognised for its strong civil and structural engineering contribution, with the team focused on making the building as efficient and practical as possible while reducing its environmental impact. By challenging the norm for office building design, our engineers implemented a 7.5m column grid, which minimised material use and enabled thin floor slabs, creating a streamlined structure that works in harmony with the building’s wider functions. Digital modelling tools were also used to test multiple design options quickly, helping the team identify the most efficient and sustainable approach.

Our engineers also made effective use of ground conditions, confirming that the building could be supported directly on the natural sandstone beneath the site. This removed the need for deep foundations, reducing both construction complexity and carbon impact.

Tim Stidwill, Partner, said: “Having already received multiple awards, this latest recognition from the ICE highlights the strength of the project’s civil and structural engineering design. The project demonstrates how thoughtful engineering which can simplify construction, reduce material use and deliver a high-performing building in a practical and buildable way.”
