Isaac Poon, Senior Sustainability Engineer, has been appointed as one of the nine industry practitioners in Hong Kong to join the Green Building Young Leaders (GBYL) Programme organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC). This initiative aims to nurture young professionals committed to advocating green building development and sustainability practices within the industry.
Prior to being appointed as one of the GBYL, Isaac underwent a rigorous selection process, which comprised various interviews and discussions with a panel of senior industry executives. His dedication to sustainability and innovative engineering solutions made him stand out from the rest of the applicants and successfully become a GBYL.
As part of the programme, Isaac will collaborate with other young leaders and programme mentors to plan and execute projects that align with HKGBC’s mission. One of Isaac’s first projects will be contributing to the Hong Kong Green Building Week 2024 as a Green Building Tour Ambassador. He will be part of the Green Transport X Building Tour, showcasing the featured sustainable building designs in the heart of Hong Kong while travelling on low-carbon and environmentally friendly transportation. He will also lead a sustainable building event at the ESF’s Island School to educate the younger generations on how sustainable designs can be integrated into school buildings. Through the programme, Isaac will help shape the future of sustainable construction in Hong Kong which will be instrumental for the city to achieve its target of carbon neutrality by 2050.
The GBYL programme, first started in 2022, signifies a vital step for the Hong Kong construction industry as it embraces the talent of young professionals committed to sustainability. On top of the initiatives mentioned above, programme participants will also connect with senior leaders in the field and join a mentorship programme with HKGBC Directors and/or Committee Members which prepares them for future leadership roles.
Excited with the opportunity, Isaac said "I look forward to contributing to meaningful initiatives with the other young leaders to promote sustainability and foster awareness about sustainable building practices. It is also about educating the public on good carbon reduction habits such as energy saving and sharing the best practices from Cundall’s Zero Carbon Design 2030 to cultivate a net zero carbon culture in Hong Kong."
