Cundall Partner and Head of Vertical Transportation, Graham Barker, has been appointed Vice Chair of the Society of Vertical Transportation (SoVT). Graham’s appointment reflects his 30 years of experience in the lift and escalator industry, as well as his commitment to industry governance, upskilling, and encouraging new talent to join the built environment sector.

CIBSE’s SoVT is a professional community for individuals involved in the design, engineering, installation, and innovation of lifts, escalators, and wider vertical mobility systems. SoVT builds on the legacy of the former CIBSE Lifts Group, expanding its remit to reflect the evolving demands of the built environment.

Commenting on his appointment, Graham said: “As buildings become taller and more complex, vertical transportation is becoming increasingly critical and specialised. At the same time, the ability to demonstrate technical competence has never been more important. CIBSE and SoVT provide a formal pathway for members of the global vertical transportation industry to evidence their expertise.  

This is an exciting time for the industry, which is why we are exploring new ways to connect, learn, and collaborate. SoVT’s aim is to advance the vertical transportation industry through upskilling and guidance, and I’m proud to play a role in driving that change.”

SoVT is one of CIBSE’s specialist societies, hosting regular events and seminars, and sharing case studies and best practice to support knowledge sharing across the industry.
