Brunel Building wins BCO Commercial Workplace Award at National Awards

UK and Europe 25 June 2021

Brunel Building won Commercial Workplace Award at BCO National Awards 2020. With sustainability at its core the workplace development includes a variety of ground-breaking solutions contributing to the development’s low carbon footprint.

The judges commented:

“A building like this is not just designed, it is engineered and as the name suggests, it is an engineering masterclass in every way.”

Architecturally, the building is constructed with a complex exoskeleton, which challenges the local existing building stock and forms a new landmark for this regenerated business district. The on-floor services are designed with modern energy efficient four pipe fan coil units to minimise energy use. A significant area of the roof-scape is designed as terraces to be used as an amenity for the tenants and offers fantastic views of London. The building complies with the current Westminster and GLA renewables and sustainability requirements, and the design features CHP and ground water heat pumps connected to an Aquifer Thermal Energy Store (ATES).

Peter Stocks, Project Partner on the scheme commented:

‘We are incredibly proud to see Brunel Building take home the crown for the Commercial Workplace Award at the National BCO Awards this year. Cundall has been working with Derwent on the site for nearly 15 years and the building is an incredible landmark for Paddington challenging the area’s existing building stock. Congratulations to the team involved!’
