Best practice recognised at UDIA WA Awards

Australia 05 October 2022

The recent Urban Development Institute of Australia WA Chapter Awards saw two Cundall clients step up to the winner’s podium.

Rosewood Aged Care Group won the Seniors Living Award for the Rosewood West Perth redevelopment. This project consisted of expanding an existing aged care facility while retaining a treasured Heritage building, the Florence Hummerston Lodge. Biophilic design was incorporated into the new building elements and into landscaped public spaces which enhance the connection between residents and the wider community. Sustainability in energy performance, passive thermal performance and materials lifecycle assessment were also Cundall areas of expertise sought by Rosewood.

In the Urban Renewal category, Hesperia Property took home the winner’s gong for the ABN Building in Leederville. The commercial office development with co-located retail and hospitality is a catalyst for revitalisation of the Leederville CBD. Designed by HASSELL, features include rooftop greening, a large solar PV array and a custom façade developed by artist Tom Muller.

The ABN Building attained a 5 Star Green Star Design & As-Built v1.3 rating from the Green Building Council of Australia. Cundall assisted the developer and project team with sustainability advisory, the Green Star certification process and operational sustainability guidelines.

“Working with clients who go above and beyond to create outstanding places is always a pleasure - seeing those achievements recognised with industry accolades is extremely gratifying,” said Cundall Associate Director, Oliver Grimaldi.

“Our clients took a lifecycle view of their assets, ensuring operational energy-efficiency and minimising materials impacts. Also, in both projects, the wellbeing of occupants and benefits for the wider community were placed at the heart of decision-making, leading to results that demonstrate best practice.”
