North East Carbon and Nature Marketplace - Marketplace Playbook

We were proud to play a central role in the design and development of the North East Carbon and Nature Marketplace (NECaNM) - shaping the integrity frameworks, due diligence processes and guidance that ensure it delivers real, lasting impact.

The NECaNM is a new regional platform that helps funders and buyers support high-quality carbon and nature projects across the North East. It’s designed to keep environmental, social and economic benefits local - while ensuring every project meets high standards of transparency, integrity and impact.

Earlier this year, we published the Marketplace Guide - a public-facing explainer that introduced the marketplace, who it’s for, and how it works. Now, we’re pleased to share the Market Playbook - a more detailed operational manual that builds on the Guide by setting out the governance, integrity standards and processes that underpin the platform.

The Playbook provides practical guidance for both project suppliers and buyers, covering everything from listing and due diligence to value assessment, responsible participation, and carbon pricing. It also includes technical guidance on emissions accounting, additionality, permanence, and oversight - helping all participants engage with confidence and clarity.
