Located in Silverburn Shopping Centre, Zara has now opened its largest store in Scotland. Our building services and structural teams were appointed to work over the landlord's fit-out.
Our structural engineering team provided a compressive retrofit of the existing structure to accommodate a new escalator and staircase, as well as the removal of existing stairs and escalators and associated void infills. To determine the most economic and practical approach, we investigated multiple steelwork options, ensuring the chosen solution met all competing requirements. We provided detailed design and sequencing advice for temporary support throughout construction.
Jonny Pethybridge, Senior Structural Engineer, commented, “We're thrilled with the outcome, made possible through effective collaboration with the talented design and construction team. The challenges of upgrading an existing building within a live shopping centre demanded innovative thinking. This project highlights how the fabric of an existing building can be thoughtfully transformed to meet the demands of new tenants thus breathing new life into established spaces.”
The design team of Workman, Comprehensive Design Architects and Cundall worked with contractor ABC to deliver a challenging landlord enabling works project in a tight timescale. After all the hard work it is great to see Zara trading in a fantastic store.
