This project saw the full replacement of six lifts in three 1960s social housing apartment blocks, involving the removal of the ‘skip stop’ arrangement. Previously the lifts were serving alternate odd and even floors where the upgrade allows to serve all floors. This improves the traffic flow provision for the residents and contingency in the event of one lift being out of service.

Our team provided multi-disciplinary consultancy support, covering vertical transportation and building services through to the planning application approval. This was a turnkey project from the structural considerations of opening the lift lobby walls to designing the new vandal-resistant lifts, tendering the specification and providing site project management throughout.

Dave Irlam from Wythenshawe Community Housing Group commented: “It was a fantastic project and a great team to work with, the new lifts providing a much-needed upgrade to the blocks along with improving the accessibility for our residents.”
