Sustainability was a fundamental requirement for the redevelopment of an operational aged care site featuring the Heritage-listed Florence Hummerston Lodge. The co-located existing 52-bed facility was replaced with a four storey, state-of-the-art 152-bed residential care facility with additional amenities including a wellness centre, hairdresser, spa and an external on-site café which is open to the general public.
We developed the sustainability strategy and guidelines for design and delivery to ensure the project met specific requirements of City of Vincent’s 10 Design Principles for Development Excellence. This included materials lifecycle impact assessment, optimising energy efficiency, passive solar design and incorporating soil zones for vegetation. We also provided the JV3 performance modelling and associated NCC compliance documentation.
"One of the outstanding aspects of Rosewood is the day-to-day experience of residents, their families and staff was central to design decisions. The facility feels connected to the wider community and anchored in sense of place. The thoughtful architecture celebrates the distinctive Heritage building, and biophilic greening beautifies common outdoor spaces and provides views that enhance wellbeing for occupants." Oliver Grimaldi, Associate Director.

Retaining existing buildings and celebrating them is always a win – for the planet and for the community.
