Public Sector Data Centre is a high-spec, two-storey facility spanning over a total area of 8,300sqm. The building comprises of data halls, admin offices, client medium voltage (MV) rooms, transformer rooms, fibre meet-me rooms (MMR) and a dual radial ESBN 20kV substation (3MVA).

Cooling of the data halls is achieved using N+1 indirect adiabatic coolers (IAC) that work through a combination of mechanical ventilation and adiabatic cooling. The electrical power distribution achieves N+1 through dual 20kV utility supply, client MV switchgear, 20/0.4kV transformers, low voltage switchgear, static uninterruptible power supply (UPS) arrangements and continuous standby generators.

Tom Kennedy commented, “The mechanical aspect of this project was challenging yet rewarding. IAC are located at the rear of the data centre building and reject the heat from the data hall to outside air via a polymer heat exchanger. A process water treatment system is also in place, which provides feed water to the evaporative cooling arrangement onboard each of the IAC.”

Key fact

The data centre meets Tier III requirements and facilitates various entities of the Office of Public Works within this common facility.

1/3

Key fact

The design emphasised environmental responsibility by targeting an annual power usage effectiveness (PUE) of <1.2.

2/3

Key fact

Bespoke IAC design whereby the ambient temperature at which evaporative cooling is enabled can be adjusted via the building management system. This allows the IAC to be easily switched to Water Saving Mode during periods when water is scarce.
