Architect

Australia’s first full-scale 3D printed duplex home showcases a groundbreaking construction method that dramatically reduces build time while enabling elegant, sculptural forms. Cundall’s lighting designers partnered with supplier Co-Lab to enhance these architectural features, using light to emphasise the curves and contours created by the innovative printing technique.

Distinct lighting strategies were developed to reflect each duplex’s unique identity. In Duplex A, flexible fittings traced curved walls, casting dynamic shadows and guiding movement. Duplex B’s angular geometry and bold black palette were accentuated with linear fittings that disappear when unlit, but create dramatic depth and highlight geometric lines when illuminated.

“While the shared walls provided visual anchors, the remaining lighting was deliberately understated, offering soft, ambient and functional illumination. Sustainable choices were prioritised throughout to support the 7.9 Star BASIX energy rating target.”  Bettina Easton, Associate
