Located on Turrbal and Yuggera Country, the Barracks project is a large-scale industrial development comprising 26,981 square metres of built area. The facility includes 1,000 square metres of premium office space, with the remainder dedicated to high-capacity warehouse operations. The project has achieved a 5 Star Green Star rating under the Green Star Buildings v1.0 tool.

Cundall worked closely with the wider project team to secure Green Star certification shortly after practical completion. The project also achieved Green Star’s Climate Positive Pathway, demonstrating leadership in upfront carbon emissions reduction, energy use and energy source selection. Compared to standard practice, the design reduces base-building energy by at least 30 percent, water use by over 80 percent, and upfront carbon emissions by more than 20 percent.

“Our team helped navigate the complexities of achieving the upfront carbon reduction targets in the carbon-intensive industrial sector, providing timely advice around lean design initiatives and guidance on procurement of lower-carbon materials to achieve the targeted upfront carbon reductions,” said Dr David Sparks, Principal Sustainability Consultant.
