Calum Perey appointed UAE Chair of the IStructE Regional Group

MENA 20 January 2026

Calum Perey, Principal Engineer, has been appointed as the UAE Chair of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) Regional Group for 2026.

Calum has been an active member of the IStructE UAE community for more than 8 years. During this time, he has contributed to a wide range of initiatives, including delivering CPD talks, supporting young engineers, and championing sustainability across the region. He also served on the IStructE Global Council in 2021 and 2022, helping shape the institution’s international direction.

In 2022, Calum co‑founded the UAE Carbon Assessment initiative, which aims to record and calculate embodied carbon in existing assets across the country – a critical step toward improving transparency and reducing environmental impact within the built environment.

Reflecting on his new role, Calum said, “I’m excited to work closely with our committee, the Young Members Group, and colleagues across the industry, with a strong focus on structural sustainability, knowledge sharing, cross-discipline collaboration and strengthening the positive impact of our profession across the UAE and wider MENA region.”

Scott McKeever, Partner and Country Director – UAE, comments, “I’m delighted to see Calum take on this role. His commitment to advancing sustainable engineering and his leadership within the profession make him a brilliant choice at a time when the UAE is accelerating its transition toward a low‑carbon future. This is a critical moment for driving meaningful sustainability outcomes across the built environment, and Calum’s influence will help shape that progress.”

Congratulations Calum, on your new appointment!
