The All England Lawn Tennis Club has received planning permission for the redevelopment of The Hill to be completed in time for The Championships 2027.
The Hill is a fan favourite viewing point for all the action on the big screen, situated on the outside of No.1 Court. The refurbishment project will provide a world-class experience for the spectators and upgrades will include a 20% increase in capacity as well as biodiversity, inclusive viewing areas (including improved wheelchair accessibility), and nicely landscaped areas all year round.
Tom Hayward, Principal Structural Engineer, comments on the project: “The reprofiling of The Hill includes going from three steep tiers to five shallower ones to provide spectators with an improved user experience and greater accessibility. The new pergoda at the top of The Hill will provide shade and work as a rain shelter when needed.
“As part of our services, our civil engineering team looked at improving the surface drainage system as current set up results in areas becoming saturated during heavy rains.”
Cundall provided structural and civil engineering, as well as geotechnical services to the redevelopment of The Hill.
