Digital material passports - Ecococon
EcoCocon panels are made of 98% natural renewable materials, making them as close to nature as possible. This results in high indoor air quality with no harmful substances emitted. It is also worth noting that these panels are permeable to vapour, they allow excess humidity to escape. The material has no thermal bridges and is airtight, leaving no space for draughts or mould. These features are highly regarded when aiming for Passivhaus standards.
Natural materials create a healthy indoor microclimate with even temperatures throughout the year – warm in winter and cool in summer. Thanks to its unique cellular structure, straw has been used in construction for thousands of years. Combined with modern technology, EcoCocon has succeeded in further improving material’s performance and has also achieved exceptional insulation properties.
EcoCocon has been ranked 4th in the first-ever global Product Innovation Challenge by the Cradle to Cradle Product Innovation Institute and has received an Innovation Award for ‘regionally available and renewable materials’ in 2019.

What is a digital material passport?
A material passport is a digital document listing all the materials that are included in a product or construction during its life cycle in order to facilitate circularity decisions in supply chain management at the end of the building life.
At Cundall, we want to create a passport to materials/products that will also provide information before its use so designers and contractors are capable of making conscious decisions of products that could affect the embodied carbon and health well-being of a project, facilitating the inclusion of the best low carbon and/ healthy materials that align with their design.
