Australia’s first building to achieve BREEAM New Construction certification

Australia 13 十月 2025

AESSEAL’s Australian headquarters has been certified under the BREEAM sustainability scheme - the first building in Australia to receive such a certification.

Located on the outskirts of Brisbane (Yuggera Counry), the warehouse has achieved an ‘Excellent’ award with a credit score of 78.3% under the BREEAM International New Construction criteria. The building’s design and construction has sustainability at its core, with key features including the integration of passive design strategies that deliver high levels of airtightness, a large solar photovoltaic system on the roof, and a rainwater harvesting system accompanied with efficient water fixtures and fittings.

Cundall’s Brisbane-based team was brought onto the project by UK-based consultancy Carbon.Climate.Certified to provide local market expertise and sustainability advisory support. As the warehouse is the first in Australia to adopt this BREEAM certification, the project required a local sustainability expert to apply the BREEAM framework to the Australian market, taking into consideration regional standards and regulations.

David Sparks, Principal Sustainability Consultant at Cundall, said “applying the BREEAM framework to the Australian market was a key challenge for this project. An enormous collaborative effort between Cundall, Xenia Constuctions, Angle Design & Project Management, Carbon.Climate.Certified and AESSEAL was essential for delivering this fantastic result and enabled us to achieve strong scores across each of BREEAM’s categories.”

He adds, “recognition from an internationally recognised system such as BREEAM emphasises the importance of our efforts in driving environmental excellence in industrial buildings, which is a key strength across our team in Queensland and wider Australia.”
