This project entails the development of over 875 homes and a local village centre. The masterplan aims to create a comfortable community where residents can enjoy a excellent quality of life. Cundall was engaged for multidisciplinary engineering and planning consultancy to update and improve the masterplan and develop new designs for an “infrastructure first” package.

Cundall’s highways and active travel design provided a 1.5 km spine road, secondary road infrastructure, segregated footways and cycleways and drainage infrastructure. Because the town has experienced severe flooding in recent years, we undertook a detailed Site-Specific Flood Risk assessment and suggested four catchments to help reduce the risk. Our proposed surface water management plan includes a combination of traditional drainage, green drainage, and innovative drainage components.

Michael Florance, Associate, commented, “The sustainable elements of the drainage design have since been approved for adoption by Northumbrian Water (NWL). It's the first design of its kind where NWL will adopt all sustainable drainage infrastructure elements (SuDS) in the North East of England."

As a part of Cundall’s commitment to Zero Carbon Design by 2030, our designs for this project also involved lowering the amount of embodied carbon and protecting local wildlife.
