Abu Dhabi’s vision is to become one the world’s top ten maritime cities. The Abu Dhabi Maritime’s ‘Community Activation Programme’ pilot projects is part of the emirate waterways five-year plan to establish a roadmap for developing essential public maritime infrastructure throughout Abu Dhabi, connecting islands and coastlines to the wider community.

Cundall was engaged to provide engineering services from concept masterplan stage through to tender for a portfolio of projects with different themes comprising marinas, ferry terminals and mooring functions for leisure craft and ferries. Our team provided support in developing a brief for the various types of maritime uses and interfaces and embedding them into a functioning masterplan. The sites covered in this pilot projects development programme include:

  • Rabdan Marina facilities (381m2)
  • Al Aliah Island ferry terminals (681m2)
  • Saadiyat Island Marina facilities and ferry terminals (1014 m2)
  • Jebel Dhanna Marina and ferry station (3009 m2)

Cundall were responsible for tackling and providing key innovative and technical solutions to address the development use, marine functionality, site constraints and other challenging limitations. Sustainability and innovation were the governing principles of how this project was delivered.
