Cundall’s agents of influence in Australian property

26 March 2024

Cundall Director, David Collins, has been appointed to the Green Star Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of the Green Building Council of Australia. The appointment is recognition of his deep expertise in sustainable design, and lengthy track record of Green Star projects, including advising on the delivery of Green Star rating firsts in sectors including retail and aged care.

The TAG supports the development of the rating scheme, provides input into technical guidance and helps shape the direction for both current and future rating tools and other initiatives.

GBCA governance also incorporates Expert Reference Panels, and Principal Simon Liley has been appointed to the Sustainable Buildings panel. Other Cundall Australia staff already serving on these panels include Associate Director, Oliver Grimaldi (Sustainable Precincts Expert Reference Panel); Cundall Building Performance Services Lead, Mathuran Marianayagam (Building Performance Expert Reference Panel); Director of ESG Madlen Jannaschk (Carbon and Energy Expert Reference Panel); and Associate Director, Hannah Morton (Responsible Products Expert Reference Panel).

“One of the key elements of Cundall’s Zero Carbon Design 2030 commitment is engaging with the industry and our peers to increase the momentum of transformation of practices in the property and construction sectors. Being actively involved with bodies such as the Green Building Council of Australia is a tangible way to make a significant, industry-wide difference”

“Being involved in the Green Star Technical Advisory Group also means I can bring the experience and insight gained from nearly 20 years of shifting the dial in sectors including industrial, aged care, healthcare, retail and residential. This will be important in engaging these sectors and ensuring they adopt best practice approaches to design, delivery and asset operations,” said Collins.

For Simon Liley, involvement with the ERP is an opportunity to work collaboratively with peers from across the property value chain and help drive a cultural shift in the Australian industry. “Green Star is a powerful tool for driving good design, when that goal is kept front of mind,” Liley explained.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to help practitioners utilise Green Star as a means of driving better design outcomes, going beyond box ticking and compliance to use as a tool to keep human and environmental health and wellness as a top priority."
