The Role

Are you a talented and experienced Power Systems Engineer looking for an exciting opportunity to work on challenging engineering projects across the globe? Look no further! We are seeking a skilled Senior Power Systems Engineer,based in our new Bengaluru office, to join our dedicated and specialised Power Systems team. Our team plays a pivotal role in designing and delivering cutting-edge projects in multiple international locations.

As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects from around the world. Your day-to-day role will involve designing medium and high voltage power systems and analysing/validating the design using industry-recognised power systems analysis software, writing technical reports and supervising junior team members as well as identifying/developing improvements to existing project delivery methods. This role is based in our Global Engineering Centre in Bengaluru, India and will function as a virtual extension of our Global Power System Hubs located in the UK and Singapore.

Some of the project themes that you may be involved in:

  1. Steady state power system studies such as load flow, short-circuit, protection co-ordination, arc flash assessment, etc. for design validation on hyper-scale data centres, utility projects, renewable energy, and industrial projects, etc.
  2. Pre-FEED/FEED design of grid substations and hyper-scale data centre campuses (100MW+) informing system design principles and primary/secondary equipment specification/selection.
  3. Grid interconnection design for renewable projects covering both system design and grid compliance power system studies in accordance with UK grid codes
  4. Technical advisory as independent reviewer/owner’ engineer for data center and utility customer
  5. Niche projects covering aspects such as innovative protection and control designs, city masterplanning, novel technology (pilot) deployment, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and detailing engineering designs, calculations, and specifications using relevant technical software.
  • Modelling complex networks using industry recognized power system software and performing steady state studies (load-flow, short-circuit, protection co-ordination, arc flash), dynamic/RMS simulation studies and harmonic analysis
  • Preparing detailed technical reports, specifications, drawings, schematics and other design documents with varying levels of detail in accordance with project progression/requirements.
  • Supervising junior colleagues and reviewing their work
  • Collaborating with internal/external stakeholders, supplier, contractors, vendors and clients in a professional manner within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural work environment.
  • Attending and participating in client and project meetings.
  • Identifying and developing improvements in project delivery methods

The Skills

  • Degree in Power Systems Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in an Electrical Engineering role within the power systems field in a consultancy, OEM/equipment vendor environment
  • Familiarity with power systems analysis software such as DIgSILENT Power Factory, ETAP, or SKM-PTW is desirable.
  • Proven ability to produce design documentation such as schematic diagrams, fault and discrimination studies, specifications, and project reports and work semi-autonomously.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and colleagues in an agile/fast paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to overcome challenges with initiative.
  • Knowledge of UK/European Grid Codes and grid compliance studies is advantageous.
  • Scripting knowledge in Python (or similar) is beneficial.
  • Passion for accurate power systems design and thinking out of the box.
  • Growth mindset with the desire to continually learn/develop.
