Fashion and homeware retailer, Joules, created a head office to accommodate their hybrid workforce in Market Harborough. The building enabled the head office teams to move from five separate buildings into a single facility, and the repurposing of an existing structure within the completed development exemplified the client’s sustainability approach.

Cundall provided civil and structural engineering services from inception to completion of the project. Our design approach enabled the existing 1980s office building to be remodelled and repurposed such that the original building is seamlessly integrated within the completed development.

Due to the poor existing ground conditions, piled foundations were recommended in the ground investigation report. Cundall proposed the innovative use of cement and lime soil stabilisation to increase the bearing capacity of the ground. This allowed pad foundations to be used instead, resulting in significant savings in cost, time and embodied carbon.
