Trotters Community Reuse Hub has been named winner of the Best Cultural Building category at this year's Scottish Structural Awards.
The development involved turning a building which had been derelict for almost two decades, into a sustainable community hub focused on reuse, creativity, and low‑carbon design. The judges recognised its strong structural engineering contribution which had prioritising retention and repair over replacement, an approach that significantly reduced embodied carbon while preserving the building’s character.
Neil Dely, Partner, commented, "Being recognised at these prestigious structural awards is a testament to our dedication to sustainability and innovation. Trotters Community Reuse Hub is a great example of what can be done with an empty, forgotten building, and we look forward to seeing how it is used by the local community for years to come."
The space now contains a mix of café, workshop, retail and co‑working spaces, creating a flexible hub that supports local creativity, skills development and social interaction while embedding sustainability and reuse principles throughout its design.
Congratulations to our partners on this project - New Cumnock Development Trust, Inch Architecture, PMP, Taylor and Fraser - and to all the other winners on the night.
