Island has been awarded ‘Project of the Year: Workplace Interiors (70k+ ft2)’ at the Mix Awards North 2025. This 100,000 ft2 (9,290 m2) net zero carbon office has been recognised as one of the very best in the north for commercial design.
Island is located in a central Manchester conservation area and delivers hotel-style amenities, such as a rooftop terrace, food outlets and event spaces. The building is designed to be BREEAM ‘Excellent’, WELL-enabled and has achieved NABERS UK 5* Design Reviewed Target Rating. Our team provided multi-disciplinary engineering services and Stage 4 detailed design for this Grade A office space.
The judges praised the project’s communal spaces for their warm design, describing them as ‘welcoming’ the public in. The timber waffle grid ceiling was highlighted as a feature that ‘adds to that sense of warmth and nods to nostalgia’.
Paul Kenyon, Partner, comments on the project and the win: "I am delighted that Island has won such a prestigious design award, which recognises the attention to detail required from the entire design team to produce a high-quality office. I am particularly proud of our team at Cundall for delivering yet another 5-star NABERS sustainable design in the city."
Well done to the entire project team for putting together a winning entry for a high-quality project!
