Cundall WLCA team helps Nebula Development save 686 tonnes of CO₂e

UK and Europe 11 February 2025

Milton Park, the UK’s largest single ownership innovation community, proudly announces the completion of the £40 million Nebula development. This milestone highlights the significant contributions of our whole life carbon assessment (WLCA) team, who meticulously calculated the embodied carbon from RIBA Stage 2 to Practical Completion.

Nebula’s design and construction focused on sustainability, utilising glue-laminated (glulam) structural timber beams instead of steel. This resulted in an impressive upfront embodied carbon saving of 686 tonnes of CO₂e.

The development aims to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and EPC A energy efficiency standards. Surplus wood from the site was donated to RAW Workshop, where it was transformed into educational materials and new products, further enhancing Nebula’s environmental and social impact.

Kim Gault
, Principal Sustainability Consultant, commented “It is incredibly rewarding to work on a project where the entire team is dedicated to achieving environmentally conscious excellence. Being able to assist the design team in understanding the impact of different facade finishes, key structural elements, and estimated operational energy uses is truly fulfilling.”
