As part of the London Architecture Festival’s ‘Falcon Road Bridge design competition’, our Beyond the Bridge submission has been awarded as the winning entry. We were delighted to work with GPAD, POoR Collective, MRG Studio, Sutton Vane Associates, and MDA Consulting to design a proposal which prioritises community engagement, sustainability, noise reduction, and safety while also reflecting Wandsworth’s rich cultural identity.
Colin O’Connor, Associate, commented on how our expertise in acoustics helped shape the project: “This is a wonderful opportunity for acoustics to enhance the public realm, alongside improvements to lighting and urban ecology. By integrating coloured acoustic panels into the design, we can reduce noise, create a more welcoming space for all users, while complementing the showcased public artwork.”
The Falcon Road Bridge underpass is integral to the community who raised concerns around safety, lighting, and noise. The team worked closely with local schools to include young people, residents, and community groups to gather ideas and feedback throughout the competition process to ensure they were not only enriching the environment but also celebrating the culture and its people. Part of this collaboration allowed for the introduction of micro-gardens to improve air quality and biodiversity.
"Beyond the Bridge beautifully embodies the spirit of transformation and inclusivity that lies at the heart of the London Festival of Architecture. By weaving the voices and stories of Wandsworth’s communities into the design, this project celebrates local identity in a deeply meaningful way" said Rosa Rogina, Director of the London Festival of Architecture.
