Priya Sisodia, Associate Director - Building Services has been featured in MEP Middle East's Women in MEP list - a celebration of the remarkable women shaping the future of the MEP industry across the MENA region. From sustainability leaders to technical experts and change-makers, these women are driving impact and breaking barriers.

Below, Priya shares her insights on diversity and inclusion, unspoken challenges, and advice for young engineers.

What are some of your personal achievements in the industry that you are particularly proud of?

I’m particularly proud of leading several iconic projects across diverse sectors, from airports to hospitality, and in various parts of the world. These experiences not only pushed me to prove my capabilities in a male-dominated field but also helped shape me into the professional I am today. Navigating different cultural and professional landscapes while delivering successful projects has been incredibly rewarding and has truly enhanced my leadership skills.

Has the importance of diversity and inclusion improved over the past year?


Yes, absolutely. When I started my career, I was often the only female in my department, which at times made me feel isolated. But today, while working on one of our current projects, it’s inspiring to see that all the key leaders - design managers, project managers, and representatives from the client side, PMC, consultants, and architects - are all women. This shift is a clear sign of how far we've come. It's a proof that diversity and inclusion aren’t just buzzwords anymore; they are becoming a fundamental part of the industry’s future.

What are the unspoken challenges women face in the industry that aren’t often discussed?

One of the unspoken challenges that many women face, especially in our industry, is maintaining a work-life or rather work-family balance. The pressure to excel professionally while also fulfilling family duties is a real challenge, particularly for working mothers. These struggles are often brushed aside or not discussed openly in the workplace. Personally, I feel incredibly fortunate to have the unwavering support of both my family and my colleagues. Their encouragement has given me the space to balance my career aspirations with my personal life, which has been crucial in maintaining my resilience.

What advice would you give your younger self about entering and thriving in this industry?

If I could give advice to my younger self, the first thing I would say is: STOP doubting your abilities. When I first started my career, I often second-guessed myself because I was one of the few women in the room. It took me years to build the confidence I have now, and I wish I had trusted myself earlier. I’d also tell myself to be more courageous in seizing big opportunities. There will always be people who doubt you, but the key is to trust yourself and give your best without hesitation.

How can companies design workplace policies that foster not just inclusion, but a true sense of belonging for women?

To create true belonging for women, companies must implement policies that go beyond simple inclusion, such as offering flexible work arrangements and equal opportunities for all employees, regardless of gender. It’s essential to foster a culture of empathy, where employees feel supported and valued. Creating an environment where women can confidently express themselves without fear of judgment is also very important. When organisations create spaces where women are respected and empowered, they lay the foundation for a workplace where everyone can thrive and belong.

What unconventional advice would you give to the next generation of women?

My unconventional advice to the next generation of women would be to never shy away from opportunities. Step into every opportunity with confidence, even if it feels intimidating. Growth often happens when we push ourselves beyond our comfort zones. Don’t be afraid to take risks, fail, and learn from those experiences. Your abilities are more powerful than you think, and you belong in this industry just as much as anyone else. Own your journey and never let doubt hold you back.
