St Leonard's College

Victoria, Australia

The Sustainability Centre, designed for St Leonard's College, is an exemplary building that showcases a diverse range of passive systems, renewable energy technologies and flexible teaching spaces. The building reflects a ‘whole of school’ approach to sustainability, which in itself is a teaching aid and an integrated component of the college’s environmental sustainability curriculum.

Features include:

  • a solar wall (for winter heating and summer ventilation stack)
  • rainwater-fed water walls for passive evaporative cooling
  • solar thermal panels with a gas-boosted underfloor heating system
  • a demonstration photovoltaic and micro-wind turbine for on-site electricity generation
