Hayes Data Centre

London, United Kingdom

This is a new 4,000m2 data facility to form a high-resilience and high-capacity centre for the client's global ICT & AV infrastructure. Cundall was brought in at the outset to assist the bank in developing the brief, and then in selecting the site.

Key issues were the need for very high resilience levels (99.999%, 365 days a year), and a deadline of just nine months before the data halls were to go live. Cundall devised a 2N solution and sufficiently advanced the design to allow construction to start within 12 weeks. Commissioning of the first of the four data halls started 16 weeks later. Full black building and system failure drills were all completed within the nine-month target to allow deployment of live systems right on schedule.

A unique feature of this data centre was the use of different vendors for each leg of the 2N systems, to mitigate common component failure. Cundall also ensured that the centre had extensive passive and electronic security protection measures. Handover was defect-free.
