The long anticipated re-development of the Pride Hill, Darwin and Riverside shopping centres in Shrewsbury took a major step closer to becoming a reality after Shropshire Council approved the Planning Application. A new full line Debenhams department store will also open in the historic town of Shrewsbury as part of the state of the art scheme. The announcement comes after Debenhams signed up to open a 95,000 sq ft store.
The re-development will see the demolition of the existing Riverside Centre to create New Riverside – a state of the art shopping destination of 380,000 sq ft. As well as the town’s first and only full line department store, the scheme will contain around 50 stores and shops and 12 restaurants. This will link seamlessly to the Darwin and Pride Hill shopping centres to create a single mixed-use, retail-led centre of around 680,000 sq ft in the heart of Shrewsbury.
New Riverside will also provide 300 additional car parking spaces on a single level to compliment the existing Raven Meadows multi-storey car park which will be reconfigured and totally refurbished to provide a further 750 car parking spaces.
This project will be assessed under the BRE world recognised Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM), which we are assisting our clients with.
UKCPT, the owner of the three shopping centres, is being advised on the re-development by Ignis Asset Management (Ignis) and Shearer Property Group (SPG).
