Who are you and what do you do?
I am Melanie, Senior Engineer in sustainability, working in the Hong Kong office.
What or who inspired you to be an engineer?
I’ve always wanted to be an Engineer because I’ve always liked physics. I used to want to work on engines because it seemed interesting. However, I was inspired to get into sustainability after taking a few environmental and sustainability courses during my final two years of university. When I learned that about 40% of stationary energy is consumed by buildings, I thought sustainability in buildings was the right place to go.
What made you decide to join Cundall?
Cundall was very much an exciting opportunity at the right place and time. I have previously worked in Asia and thought Hong Kong would be a great place to continue working.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I really enjoy interacting with clients, getting to understand what they need and delivering the best service I can for them.
What are you most proud of in your career to-date?
It’s hard for me to pinpoint one thing. In my career so far, I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked in 3 different cities, on a variety of different projects ranging from new buildings, from education to industrial projects – all with their own nuances. I’m proud of all of it.
Tell us the most interesting thing you have learnt or experienced in your time at Cundall
I have learned and experienced that even in an office of under 20 people, that’s enough birthdays to eat a lot of work birthday cake!
